“Get Your Phil” – 10 Favorite CDs of 2011 – From Ron Olesko WFDU Radio

From Ron Olesko and his show Traditions on WFDU radio in New Jersey:

I really enjoyed being on live New Year’s Day.  Today’s show included a
review of my favorite 10 CD’s of 2011 – and if you are a math major you will
notice there are 12 choices.  I could say it was a holiday special, but in
reality I thought there were too many exceptional CD’s released during the
past 12 months, and with a genre as diverse as “folk music”, I felt I needed
at least 2 more to help represent the great music we were treated to in
2011.

Here are my choices, in alphabetical order (based on first name):

ARI & MIA    “Unruly Hearts”
BEARFOOT    “American Story”
BROTHER SUN    “Brother Sun”
DAVID WAX MUSEUM    “Everything is Saved”
DISAPPEAR FEAR    “Get Your Phil”
GILLIAN WELCH    “The Harrow & The Harvest”
JOE CROOKSTON    “Darking & The Blue Bird Jubilee”
JOEL MABUS    “American Anonymous”
JOHN MCCUTCHEON    “This Land: Woody Guthrie’s America”
ONCE    “Row Upon Row of the People They Know”
RED MOLLY    “Light in the Sky”
SPUYTEN DUYVIL    “New Amsterdam”

Again, no particular order – I do not believe in the word “best” in terms of
these type of lists.  These are CD’s that were my favorites of 2011, and
there were several others that almost made the list.   I chose these because
of their personal appeal, and I felt they represent the diversity of our
genre and the great art that was produced in 2011.
